To develop and influence disability employment-related policies and practices, ODEP sponsors five policy development and technical assistance resources. One of these is the Job Accommodation Network (JAN) — the leading source of free, expert and confidential guidance on workplace accommodations and disability employment issues.

Recent JAN activities and areas of focus include:

  • JAN Workplace Accommodation Toolkit
JAN’s free online workplace accommodation toolkit provides employers with the tools needed to create a more disability-inclusive and compliant workplace. JAN’s workplace accommodation toolkit contains sample policies and practices, templates, and checklists, as well as emerging approaches that companies can try out and customize for their workplace needs. The toolkit is a free and comprehensive resource for organizations that are seeking to refresh or develop their accommodation policies and processes, leveraging the best proven resources and practices available to date that have been utilized in effectively managing disability-related questions.
  • JAN A to Z of Disabilities and Accommodations
JAN provides A to Z listings of accommodations by disability, topic, and limitation. This information will help employers and individuals determine effective accommodations and comply with Title I of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). You will find ADA information, accommodation ideas, and resources for additional information. Lists are organized by disability, limitation, work-related function, and employment topics.
  • JAN Webcast Archives
JAN archived Webcasts are available at no cost. Gather your employees together in a room for live, in-service training. Educate yourself, management, and other employees on disability etiquette, assistive technologies, management techniques, and the latest on accommodations and the employment provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The future JAN Webcast schedule will be posted in September. All Webcasts begin at 2 pm eastern and are 1 hour. You must register to attend. One registration is equivalent to one login. All webcasts are archived approximately 2 weeks following the event.
  • JAN Just-In-Time Training Modules
The JAN Multimedia Training Microsite provides training resources for JAN’s users. These materials may be used in group training or by individuals. They may easily be incorporated into larger training events. Some resources are for general audiences while some are quite specific.
